Marie Sharp Factory Tour
One of the most popular activity by visitors to the Stann Creek Valley is a tour of the Marie Sharp's Pepper Factory. The factory is located on a detour off the Hummingbird Highway near the Hope Creek Bridge called Melinda Road.
Taking this tour of the gift shop, factory and farm, would allow you to see the different products offered by Marie Sharp's and how they are made. The most popular product is the hot sauce. The flavorful habanero peppers that go into the sauce are locally grown the 400-acre farm that the factory sits on. The factory employs just 17 employees and the sauce is still mix and blended under the personal supervision of Marie Sharp herself.
The tour requires you to wear a free paper hair net and are often lead by Marie Sharp herself. She is the most successful female entrepreneur in Belize, and the highlight of the tour is listening to her explaining the history of the factory and the pride she takes in producing Belize's most renowned product worldwide.
