Railroad Trestle and Tracks
The valley was home to the first railway in the country. Evidence of tracks and bridges of this bygone era can still be seen from certain spots on the highway. There is over 900 feet of Stann Creek Railway trestle bridge at mile 17.5, Valley Community, in a large crevice at Mr. Carlos Choc farm. The railway used to run on top of the trestles so that the trains could pass smoothly over the waterways and creek beds. This old train bridge can be seen from the highway when crossing one of the Seven Sister's Bridge if one looks carefully. It is right across from the Weller House. There are large trees growing in the huge concrete structures as the timeless battle between the jungle and man made structures wages.
The same trestle like foundations can be found on the Seven Seven Sister’s Bridges but none of these remaining bridges were as long as the remains of the Trestle Bridge at Valley Community.
